Sacred Spaces

This week has been an absolute whirlwind, and in an effort to both slow it down and create a space that is soothing and spiritual, I’ve been rearranging our third bedroom as an “altar room.” It’s not even close to finished as I have quite a few things to move out and some decorating to do, but by the time it’s done, I’m hoping to use it as a place where I can do private ritual and yoga practice.

To that end, I’ve been checking out photos of home altars, shrines, and rooms of worship, and I thought I’d share! Obviously, some of these just plain aren’t feasible in a bedroom, but they serve as beautiful inspiration to me, and I hope they speak to you, too. ;)

What are your favorite sacred spaces? What inspires you? If you had a whole room to which you could dedicate your practice, how would you set it up?

If I had a whole room I’d set it up to be as close as possible to looking like the room Dumbledore set up in Hogwarts for Firenze the centaur when he came to teach divination in book 5… The one that looked like a forest clearing… With my altar set up on a large tree stump in the centre of the forest clearing. That way it would be a private space, but would still allow me to be in nature. Of course, if it was possible I’d have a real nature clearing on my property that I could work in, but a room set up to immitate one would be almost as good.

Anyway, good luck with your redecoration project; hope it works out how you want it to. And, enjoy the room when it’s completed! :)

Ohhhh, see, now that would be GORGEOUS! I love that idea, and can’t believe that didn’t cross my mind while searching for sacred spaces! I hope that you someday have a way to have your forest clearing, or at least a little space in your backyard.

And thank you! This has been an interesting project so far, if only because there’s so much I want to do. ;)

I hope so too, but if that ever happens it will be a long way in to the future.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing about your sacred room project as the space comes together. :)

Absolutely! I can’t wait until it’s finished, but even just the planning is fun. :)

Hi there. I see you are using my altar room in your blog (which is fine it is stock after all) except that you forgot to follow my TOU and both credit and notify me of use. You could have at the very least made the image a direct link to the original which can be found here http://fav.me/d36tyva

So do you cast a spell that allows you to steal the art or is it a religious freedom?

  4. Carol says:

A nice idea and very nice images – a shame there are no credits, I would like to see some other work by these artists and photographers – links would be really nice!

Great pics, but please remember to credit the original artists when you post something you did not create.
