Holidays to balance out your hot and sticky summer! Thank heavens, too -- we all need something other than air conditioners, swimming pools, and ice-cold lemonade to keep us afloat as we roast. (Though honestly, none of those are all that bad.) Nothing for us Pagans this month, but still plenty to go around! A very happy holiday to anyone observing this month. :) Like the ones in February … [Read more...]
Happy Beltane! :)
To those in the Northern hemisphere who celebrate, a very happy and fun-filled Beltane to you! And to those brothers and sisters to the south, happy Samhain!! Since Matt and I will be out celebrating his favorite Sabbat (lol) with a bunch of friends and good drinks tonight, and considering I have work today, I don't have a great amount of time for a large Beltane post. Therefore, I'm going to … [Read more...]
NASA Goddard encourages and celebrates different faiths – Part 2!
I was hoping to get one for last month, but sadly, I didn't. That's okay, though! Matt's workplace still does these, and it's nice to see how inclusive they are of all religions. (See all the way at the bottom for Beltane!) Like the one in February, below is the section of the email sent to all NASA Goddard employees this morning with the holidays for the month of April, including some links at … [Read more...]
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! – Debunking the Blarney
Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig! I'm part Irish -- half of my heritage is Polish, half is a combination of French, German, Irish, and Swedish. I was also raised Catholic, which is strongly linked to that Irish side. So when St. Patrick's Day comes around, I can't help but feel pretty prideful, even if it is that small percentage. ;) St. Patrick's Day, though, is rife with myths about snakes, … [Read more...]
NASA Goddard encourages and celebrates different faiths.
On the first of every month, my husband's employer (NASA Goddard) sends out an email with activities and events going on at the Center, including a list of all the celebrations for that month. One would absolutely expect nationally-recognized holidays to be on there, as well as Christian ones as they're the religious majority. Surprisingly, though, and this was pointed out to me by Matt when he … [Read more...]
A very happy holiday season, indeed!
It has been quite an eventful week! Matt and I had a good chunk of time off this past weekend (I had a four-day, he had a three-'n'-half-day), which was spent frolicking around Maryland and generally having a great time. I got to meet another internet friend this past Thursday! Bethany (Beatnik Betty) and I have been LiveJournal friends for ages. Seriously, I don't even remember when we became … [Read more...]
Happy Everything from the Fox family!
Wishing you and your families a happy Chanukah, a merry Christmas, a blessed Yule, and whatever else you may celebrate this winter season. Oh, and a very happy New Year! ;) … [Read more...]
Chanukah history and traditions
Still not feeling 100% better today -- some of the symptoms are over and done with, but I can't seem to shake these nauseous and exhausted feelings. It was so bad that I had to miss last night's Yule ritual, which I anticipated but was still rather upset about. We did go to Matt's family's Chanukah dinner on Saturday, though! It was a wonderful time spent with extended family, and I'm so happy … [Read more...]
Holiday Celebrations! And… I’m sick, duh.
It's seriously the worst time of year to be sick, but here I am, nursing a box of tissues while swallowing pill after pill of Comtrex and trying to bolster my immune system with Emergen-C. There are just too many things going on, holiday-wise, to be sick! Since I don't really have a huge update or anything, I thought I'd give y'all a glimpse into our celebrations this winter, and I hope I can make … [Read more...]
Happy Christmachanuyulekah!
One of the greatest perks of living in a coexisting home are all the holidays you get to celebrate! I know that I've experienced more Jewish holidays since Matt and I have been together (has it really been 6.5 years...?) than I ever thought I would, and because of my background and current spirituality, I get to see how the old melds with the new. It's been a real whirlwind. Since we do … [Read more...]
